Description
The integration of mixed reality (MR) in education is rapidly increasing, enhancing the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning . However, young educators often face significant challenges when starting to develop educational materials using augmented reality (AR), a key component of MR. These challenges are compounded by a lack of awareness about the complexities involved in AR development, which can lead to incomplete or suboptimal implementation. This article aims to address these issues by exposing new researchers, particularly novice educators, to both the strengths and challenges associated with implementing AR in technical education. By providing a comprehensive review of high-impact journals indexed in Scopus from 2019 to 2024 , excluding review articles, this study offers valuable insights into the practical application of AR in various technical fields. The review highlights several key findings: AR can significantly enhance student engagement and understanding in technical subjects by providing immersive and interactive learning experiences. However, successful implementation requires overcoming hurdles such as technical limitations, high costs, and the need for specialized training. These findings underscore the importance of addressing these challenges to fully leverage AR’s potential in educational settings. In conclusion, the article emphasizes the crucial role of innovation in teaching and learning. By equipping new educators with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate AR’s complexities, the study contributes to advancing technical education and fostering a more dynamic and effective learning environment. The insights provided are intended to guide educators in overcoming common obstacles and maximizing the benefits of AR, ultimately leading to improved educational outcomes and a more engaging learning experience for students. Moreover, this review has a significant impact on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by highlighting that TVET education is not only focused on cognitive development and skill acquisition but also on enhancing visualization. The use of AR in TVET can transform traditional learning methods, offering students the ability to visualize complex processes and concepts in a more intuitive and comprehensible manner. This improvement in visualization aids in deeper understanding and retention of knowledge, thereby enriching the overall educational experience in TVET programs.
